Glass Rings

The properties of glass are so amazing. Add a little silver or gold foil to colored glass and Wala.... beauty. This ring was made using my ring mandrel and about 25 feet of gold filled wire. I am new to making rings but this one sure turned out great. Thanks for looking!

The Thrill

Once I made my first necklace out of fiber, I can understand how it must be addicting to create with that medium. I carefully chose and purchased two colors of rayon/silk cord from a manufacturer in the garment district. The colors are a sunny shade of marigold and and a rich shade of bourdeaux. The cord knotted beautifully and the mod Carnelian pendant added the perfect compliment. Hmmmm, maybe I should take some knitting lessons.

I have always liked vintage or antique things. When I hold something very old in my hand, it makes me wonder about the person who owned it before me. What were they like, why did they buy this particular item, and why did they decide to sell it? These earrings incorporate aqua and brown with vintage Swavroski crysals from the sixties that look like little disco balls on a modern looking sterling silver length of chain.

Holiday Shopping and Venetian Glass Earrings

Every year about this time I go into high gear tryng to fnd the perfect gift for my dozens of friends and family members. This year, I have decided to try and enjoy the holiday without getting stressed out for a change. All of my shopping is being done on http://www.sherocks.etsy.com so I do not have to fight for a parking spot at the mall. I can sit home and shop and for a reasonable price buy beautiful handmade art. Yippee!! Also, I hope you like my Venetian glass earrings! :))

Not Your Grandmothers Brooch

Three lustrous gemstones were used to make this brooch, purple quartz, green jade, matte amethyst, and Swavroski crystal. After about 25 feet of sterling silver wire I can say that I am pleased with my double decker brooch! The style is meant to emulate ladylike brooches from the fifties and sixties, but using modern colors. In some places the wire is visible and some of the quartz is slightly bigger than in other places adding to the imperfection and in my opinion beauty of the piece.

Why is it that so many people do not like lime green?? It is suppossed to be the least universally liked color. I try to make people change their minds with my unique take on the shade and show off the clean beauty of lime.

I have so many ideas of things I would like to create and new techniques I would like to learn but only so many hours in the day. Last Saturday I spent the entire day walking around the garment district in the city getting inspired by all the cool fabric and gemstone stores.

I love my new online store at Etsy. There is an awesome community of fine Artists and Artisans to swap tips with, and joke around with. I know that if I am bored, I can log on to Etsy and strike a conversaton with anybody about anything crafty. My style of the day are these ethereal amethyst earrings. Briolettes of about a carat each on sterling silver wire. The imperfection on the stones adds adds to the charm of the earrings. Although jewelry is obviously personal adornment, it comes from nature and I love to photograph my jewelry in nature because I think the sun shows the stones off at their best.

I love making so many different types of jewelry it is sometimes difficult for me to decide what I want to make. New ideas are constantly floating around in my head. The biggest problem is that I only have two hands! I try to make pieces that are elegant, but that also have a detail that makes the piece interesting and provides a clue to the personality of the woman wearing the jewelry. My newest necklace and earring set, Catalina, is a cool double strand necklace with lapis lazuli chips and lemon chrysoprase smooth coins. I cannot decide if the lemon chrysoprase looks more lemon or more lime. The chrysoprase adds an interesting dimension to the necklace because the color is unexpected. Unexpected color is cool.

Fall is my favorite time to make jewelry. Colors are warm and melancholy and materials are sensual and full of texture. Fall colors are dramatic, never shy, and colors are muted. Mustard, cranberry, teal, burnt orange, and cinammon are great choices. Ethnicity is also embraced. I seem to pick a different country every year to base at least ten of my pieces on and this year I think the country is China.
